The Bend Test: Flex and Snap of a Genuine Card
A gentle flex tells you a lot: genuine cards have a springy, consistent feel and snap back flat, while many fakes feel stiff, flimsy, or stay bent.
Caution: Bend only slightly. Over-flexing creases the card and lowers its value — never do this to a card you do not own.
What this checks
The stiffness and memory of the card stock. The genuine paper-core-paper construction has a distinctive springiness.

Genuine looks like
A smooth, even bend that springs back flat with a soft, consistent feel.
Fake looks like
Too stiff or too floppy, an uneven bend, a plasticky feel, or the card holds a crease and does not return flat.
Step by step
- 1Hold the card by opposite edges.
- 2Apply a gentle, even bow — never crease it.
- 3Feel the resistance and how it springs back.
- 4Compare directly against a known-genuine card.
- 5Release immediately at any sign of stress.
Why it matters
Free and instant, and it catches obvious fakes fast. It is subjective, though, so use it alongside the light and print tests.
